Sisyphus Mc Minion
By FerrumFabrefactum
Described by its creator, FerrumFabrefactum, as ” a little bit of Greek mythology made from upcycled scrap steel,” this metal sculpture is a mishmash of ancient Greek mythology and modern culture.
Sisyphus was the founder and king of Ephyra, now known as Corinth. Legend has it that he was condemned to an eternity of performing the pointless task of rolling a giant bolder up a steep hill, only to have it roll back down before it had reached the top and then repeatedly start the task over again.
The term “minion” is often used to describe a loyal and devoted follower of someone of greater importance willing to undergo arduous and usually purposeless tasks to please them. In the Despicable Me movies, the supervillain, Gru’s minions, are depicted as small yellow cylinder-shaped creators.
In this repurposed sculpture, the little Minions take place of poor Sisyphus as they willingly push bolder up the hill.
