What is a Nixie Tube?
A Nixie tube is an early digital display format developed in the 1950s and used in all manner of machinery where numeric displays were practical, such as vending machines and cash registers.
The glass tubes have a wire-mesh anode and several cathodes shaped like numerals or other symbols. When power is applied to one cathode, it produces an orange glow discharge. These tubes are filled with a mixture of Neon and Argon gasses.
